In our home, we believe that each of our kids learn their own way. We have one child who attends traditional school and thrives there, and another who does school at home and excels there. The journey began in 2019, with a conclusion that took over a year to come to, but further solidified itself with the arrival of the pandemic in March of 2020 when both of our children were doing school at home.
There is a LOT of pressure involved in feeling the responsibility of education. There is also abundant gratitude and appreciation of the fact that I have two amazing children. Our family has had its share of challenges over the past five or six years, and the flexibility and support we have received from the friendships AT school and our friends and family support at home have been immeasurable.
All of that said to fully support public school, of which we have a product of in our home. It was a huge school, with tons of students, lots of opportunities for everything. We also support private school, if that’s what works for your family, whatever the reason, and of course, schooling at home is also a valid path.
Why Lincoln Academy? It’s a shortened form of Lincolnshire Hills Academy, which is our “official school name.” Lincolnshire is a town, village, city of some sort in England, of which both our families have ancestry, so we wanted to choose something meaningful in that way, and “Hills” goes along with High Point, where we live. We’ve abbreviated it to Lincoln Academy for brevity, but when applying to colleges, and for the graduation certificate, everything will say “Lincolnshire Hills Academy.”
That’s our backstory. We’re in the homestretch of our journey. Well, this part of our journey. This is just the beginning! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for our two travelers.
