Suddenly, the population of my town has increased by more than 50%!
That’s right, Spring Furniture Market in High Point has begun, officially. How do I know? I see LOTS of out of state license plates in the extra long time it takes to take my daughter to school, many, many really nicely dressed people at Target and Publix, and the REALLY long line at Starbucks in the morning.
I work for an on-line newsletter in the industry, but I don’t generally go to Market. Why? I’m so glad you asked. I have an intense fear of crowds. In closed places, in open places, in my mind… anywhere. This is somewhat ironic, considering for the first 15 years of my employment career, I was a concert promoter. What have I learned from this? Life is weird.
I love organizing, promoting and writing for others, but I am 100% fine staying anonymous (SURE you’re thinking…”you’re writing a blog”). I know… I’m trying something new. Currently, I have one subscriber, and it’s me.
So, what is the purpose of this rant or ramble? Basically, careers take a weird and winding path, don’t they? So does life.
Some people have a direct path in mind and follow it. Others (raises hand) have something in mind and it doesn’t end up looking anything like they thought, but it’s a really amazing ride. I wouldn’t change my rider for anything because of what I learned, who I’ve become, and largely, who I’ve met.
More and more I have come to really appreciate all the people in my life. It really is all about relationships.
I have an important question. Who is in your neighborhood that you can meet? Who haven’t you talked to in awhile that you might be missing? The possibilities are endless. Seriously, there are 8 billion people on the planet, and right now, there are nearly 200,000 people just right here in High Point!
I’m challenging myself… and YOU if you feel challenged, my friend, to try to connect. 8 billion. 200 thousand.
