I love doing good. It totally feels great! This week, my daughter and I got to do some hands on helping for the people in Western North Carolina who have lost EVERYTHING in Hurricane Helene. We packed meals at Feed the Hunger’s headquarters. The meals will be shipped to families who are rebuilding their lives. This will give them one less thing to worry about as they work really hard to get back on their feet.
LESSON #2
I also learned when I hear anyone spreading misinformation, my head nearly explodes. This misinformation that is spread about the government or FEMA’s aid for any hard-hit area benefits no one! Not only does it take people’s time to dispel the rumors, it takes precious time away from the relief efforts.
Since this happens pretty much every five minutes, I’ve developed a plan. Every time I see the crazy misinformation taunts, I post the following phrase and link. This helps keep me from being dragged down a doom spiral every time I get online:
Please visit this website and fact check anything you hear about it before you spread lies that could hamper the relief efforts.

LESSON #3
Which leads me to the next thing… thank goodness the election is less than a month away. It seems than about 99% of politicians can do nothing but lie about each other’s past and their opponent’s character. Wouldn’t it be better if everyone just laid out their platform and stopped acting like kindergartners/middle schoolers/high schoolers (pick your metaphor, depending on who lives in your house right now so as not to offend anyone).
I’m very excited that I can vote this week (Early Voting begins on Thursday)!
LESSON #4
I learned that working for myself is amazing, which I probably already knew, is that working for yourself is amazing! But there are good things and not so good:
- The very best thing is flexibility!
- My son had his wisdom teeth out, and I was able to be with him and help him as he’s recovering
- I can also work whatever hours I need to, if I have to make something up because of a doctor’s appointment.
- One of the worst things is getting enough hours to be sure the paycheck is big enough for bills
- Learning the proper balance is hard, even three years on
And one thing I’m STILL learning is that following a budget is hard especially when your income isn’t consistent. Hopefully, that will be something I DO learn and can include it in my blog soon.
